TUSKER TRAIL clients travel to some of the most beautiful and remote regions of the world. Should a medical emergency occur in these areas, it is critical that Tusker clients get to a fully staffed medical facility. That is why Tusker Trail has developed a definitive evacuation procedure with Global Rescue. Because these locations are so remote, it may take considerable time for rescuers to reach an injured person. For this reason, the initial part of any evacuation will be conducted by Tusker Trail's medically trained personnel. This initial evacuation may be to a local medical facility, or to the nearest aircraft landing area. The secondary part of the evacuation, provided by Global Rescue, is described below.
KILIMANJARO:
- There are five helicopters in the general region, based in Uganda and Kenya. These helicopters can take over six hours to reach Kilimanjaro and are subject to availability, which is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- Fixed wing aircraft are also subject to availability. Availability is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- Depending on the location on Kilimanjaro, and due to the steep terrain and high altitudes, helicopters may not be able to pick up a patient at the point of injury. In all cases, as the initial part of the evacuation, Tusker Trail personnel will evacuate the injured person(s) to either a local medical facility or to the nearest aircraft landing area.
MONGOLIA:
- The three helicopters in Mongolia are all stationed in Ulaan Bataar, and can reach Western Mongolia within 16 hours after notification and are subject to availability, which is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- Fixed wing aircraft are also subject to availability. Availability is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- In all cases, as the initial part of the evacuation, Tusker Trail personnel will evacuate the injured person(s) to either a local medical facility or to the nearest aircraft landing area.
ACONCAGUA:
- There are many helicopters in the vicinity of Aconcagua. Most of them are 60 miles away in Santiago, Chile and can get to Aconcagua in as little as one hour after notification. It can take considerably longer, depending on availability, which is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- Fixed wing aircraft are also subject to availability. Availability is based on mission status, maintenance rotations and weather conditions.
- Depending on the location on Aconcagua, and due to the steep terrain and high altitudes, helicopters may not be able to pick up a patient at the point of injury.
