Does this membership include medical evacuation off the island?

No, that would be FFS, or you would need to have a full Global Rescue membership.

Who pays for my medical expenses if I am seen?

Any medical services delivered by our staff is included in the membership and does not involve the member’s health insurance. Any other medical services beyond those delivered by our staff get billed to the member’s health insurance. For example: any specialists in Dorado Doctor’s hospital, use of equipment like imaging, or for that matter, tests ordered or services used by our own emergency medicine staff that is delivered by people outside of our own staff gets billed to insurance.

To clarify, if they have a Tropical Med membership and are catered by the EMG physicians and/or staff, they will not pay anything additional, correct? Is it the same if the EMG physicians/staff need to request surgeries, lab tests, medications, for the member? All are included in the membership?

While services of EMG are included in the cost of your membership, if a service is performed by a person or organization other than EMG and there is a fee for that service, it is the responsibility of the member and/or their health insurer to pay that bill even if the service was requested by EMG physicians.

Do you have to present any type of insurance card?

When you register for your appointment, you will be asked to load a picture of your insurance card. While this is not required, we do recommend this to save time at your First Visit. Please note: SSS Pocket(previously called SSS Blue Select Plan) health insurance does not cooperate with the hospital. While services delivered by Tropical Med staff are included in your membership, services provided by the hospital staff beyond Tropical Med are not. The hospital works with all other local insurance plans, including other SSS tiers. Please check your insurance carrier to avoid surprises.

Can visiting family members, nanny, your offspring over the age of 30, your house guests, etc. Be eligible to purchase this product?

Yes, visiting family can purchase an annual membership for $10,000 per person per year or $1,800 for the month or $450 per week.

If a patient needs to be transferred to another facility, is that covered under the membership?

Any transportation of members whatsoever is not included in membership.
For Example: ground transportation from home to Dorado Doctor’s, ground transportation from Dorado Doctor’s to another PR hospital, helicopter flight from Dorado to San Juan airport, and of course, medical air ambulance off island are all billed to the member or their insurance but can be arranged by GR/Dorado Health.

Do the services have any limit per occurrence?

No

If a radiologist is needed to read a scan ordered by a tropical medicine doctor, will the reading be expedited in addition to the scan being prioritized?

Tropical Med physicians will work with hospital staff to process services performed in the main hospital as expediently as possible.

If for instance, the surgeon/specialist the patient requires is not available in the EMG staff, they will need to pay for that surgeon’s fees and also the equipment used by the non-EMG staff?

Yes, that’s correct. If it’s performed by EMG staff, it’s included. If it wasn’t, it’s not.

How long should I expect my visit to last?

Your First Visit will be scheduled for an hour. Any appointment after that will be a 30 minute appointment.

Can your doctors write prescriptions?

Yes, however, purchase of the prescribed medication is the financial responsibility of the member.

Can I get my prescriptions at the hospital or do I have to go to a different pharmacy?

When you pre-register for your appointments, you will be asked for your preferred pharmacy. This can be the pharmacy at the hospital, or your pharmacy of choice.

What do I do if I need emergency services after hours?

You will login to your Mobile App and press the “ER Visit Notification” This will alert our ER physician you are on your way. Additionally, you can call +1 (617) 402-2070 and alert our medical operations time.
