Dr. Mankus has practiced pediatric medicine since 2014. She most recently was a staff physician at the Children’s Medical Group of Wisconsin at Lakeside. Prior to that she was a staff physician at the Riverside Medical Group in Illinois. She completed her residency at the University of Illinois Hospital. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Ponce School of Medicine.
Gerardo Rivera Rodriguez, M.D. | Int. & Emergency Medicine
Dr. Rodriguez has practiced primary care and emergency medicine since 2001. Most recently, Dr. Rodriguez spent seven years at the Veterans Administration hospital in Eugene, OR, where he was a primary care physician. Prior to that, Dr. Rodriguez spent 16 years practicing a various hospitals in Puerto Rico, including Doctors Center Hospital, Levittown Medical Services and Metropolitan Hospital. Dr. Rodriguez received his medical degree from the Universidad Central Del Este in the Dominican Republic.
Carlos Calaf, MD | Emergency Medicine
Dr. Calaf has practiced emergency medicine for over a decade in New York and Puerto Rico. He most recently served as an attending physician at Manatí Medical Center and previously held the same role at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he also taught emergency ultrasound. Board-certified and fellowship-trained in point-of-care ultrasound, he has provided telemedicine services since 2018. Dr. Calaf completed his residency and transitional year at San Lucas in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and earned his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Omar Corujo Vazquez, MD | Emergency Medicine
Dr. Corujo Vazquez has practiced emergency medicine for over a decade, with experience in clinical care, medical education, and leadership. He currently serves as an attending physician at Lenox Health Greenwich Village, part of the Northwell Health System in New York City. Previously, he directed resident education in emergency ultrasound at New York Hospital Queens/Weill Cornell. Dr. Corujo Vazquez completed his residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Puerto Rico, followed by a fellowship at Weill Cornell. He earned his medical degree magna cum laude from the University of Puerto Rico.
Anna Gaines, WHNP-BC, RN | Women’s Health
Ms. Gaines is a board-certified women’s health nurse practitioner with clinical experience in maternal-fetal medicine and diagnostic imaging. She recently completed her WHNP degree at Georgetown University, with training in prenatal care, family planning, and hormone therapy. Previously, she worked as a school nurse at TASIS Dorado and as a diagnostic sonographer in Kansas, specializing in high-risk pregnancies. She holds multiple clinical certifications and is fluent in English, Spanish, and Polish.

Ms. Roman Galarza is a registered nurse with experience in acute care, long-term care, and home health settings. Previously, she worked at AdventHealth Celebration in Florida and held roles with Nextaff Group and Maxim Healthcare. She served as restorative nurse manager at AdventHealth Kissimmee. Ms. Roman Galarza earned her BSN from the University of Puerto Rico in Arecibo and holds certifications in BLS and ACLS.
Victor F. Cruz, RN, DNP | CNS Healthcare Leader, Critical Care Clinician
Dr. Victor F. Cruz is a highly experienced clinician, educator, and former U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman with more than 25 years in critical care, hospital leadership, and academic instruction. He has served in senior clinical and teaching roles throughout Puerto Rico, with a focus on adult, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Cruz is a strong advocate for telehealth, clinical quality, and expanding access to patient-centered care. He currently leads the Dorado Health Care Initiative, driving innovation and collaboration to improve health outcomes across the region.

She participated in over 10,000 aeromedical evacuations and completed six deployments with three forward redeployments, providing care for combat and non-combat injuries and managing medical evacuations. She earned her DO from the University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, and her MPH from Tulane University. Ms. Fancher is a graduate of the University of Kansas.
Zaiga Sears, DO, MD | Associate Medical Director
Ms. Sears, a colonel in the United States Air Force, serves as medical director of the Family Health Clinic, 99th Healthcare Operations Squadron. Previously, she was chief of medical staff and a family physician at military treatment facilities worldwide. A board-certified osteopathic family physician and certified physician executive, she earned her DO from Western University of Health Sciences and her CPE from the American Association for Physician Leadership.
Claudia Zegans, MD | Medical Director
Ms. Zegans has practiced internal medicine and pediatrics at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She also served as an associate professor at Dartmouth Medical School and as the clinical director of the pediatric outpatient clinic. A graduate of Stanford University and the University of San Francisco Medical School, she has also studied at Harvard Business School.
Nathan Elder, MD | Emergency Physician
Dr. Nathan J. Elder is an emergency medicine physician in Manchester, New Hampshire, affiliated with Elliot Hospital. With over 20 years of experience, he specializes in assessing and treating patients requiring immediate medical attention. Dr. Elder received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He is trained to handle acute and life-threatening conditions, diagnose illnesses, and determine the most effective treatment methods.
Eric Johnson, MD | Associate Medical Director
Mr. Johnson is an expert in wilderness and altitude medicine. A past president of the Wilderness Medical Society, he has served on its board of directors since 2006. He is also a board member of the Himalaya Rescue Association and has volunteered as a physician at Mt. Everest ER, the medical tent at Mt. Everest Basecamp. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Mark Tenerowicz, MD | Associate Medical Director
Mr. Tenerowicz is an emergency room physician with two decades of experience at hospitals in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. A major in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps, he has completed three tours of duty in the Middle East, including service in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq, where he treated injuries, managed illnesses, and oversaw medical evacuations. Previously, he served as a flight physician for the University of Massachusetts Life Flight helicopter team. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Trinity College, he earned his MD from the Brown University School of Medicine.
Phillip Seidenberg, MD | Associate Medical Director
Mr. Seidenberg spent five years practicing medicine in Lusaka, Zambia. He was a fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Global Health, leading initiatives to improve healthcare delivery in Africa. Previously, he served as an attending emergency department physician at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas, overseeing patient care and teaching duties. A varsity soccer player and All-America honoree at the University of South Carolina, he earned his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Seid has over 25 years of experience as a board-certified surgeon. He has served as a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Southern California and as the chief of staff at St. John’s Hospital in Los Angeles, During his surgical career, he treated a wide variety of diseases, abnormalities, and injuries. Dr. Seid also founded Millennium Medical, which developed puncture-resistant surgical garments, and OR Technologies, a manufacturer of fire reduction systems for operating rooms. He earned his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco Medical School and is a graduate of Tulane University.

When Arriving by Private Transport (not by ambulance)
Inform the concierge stationed to the right of the ER entrance, or advise the triage nurse directly that you are a TotalCare PRiority member. This ensures the ER staff to promptly notify the Tropical Med team of your arrival so your physicians can respond without delay.

When Arriving by Ambulance
Ask the ER triage nurse to note your TotalCare PRiority membership upon arrival.

Notify Us in Advance (if possible)
Whenever possible, use the “ER Visit Alert” feature in your My Global Rescue App before or while heading to the hospital:
On the home screen, tap and hold the “ER Visit Alert” button (the first option at the top).
Holding the button will immediately alert the Tropical Med emergency team to activate and meet you at the hospital.
